Mission
What moves us
Indigenous Knowledges are crucial in addressing critical global issues like:
- Climate change
- Loss of biocultural diversity
- The rise of xenophobic nationalisms
This moment in history requires a shift towards multi-centered thinking—bringing together Indigenous and academic expertise. Universities and academic institutions are key players in knowledge creation, education, and policy.
Entangling Indigenous Knowledges
EDGES actively works to respectfully advance Indigenous knowledges into:
- Research
- Teaching
- Policy-making
Through innovative, collaborative methodologies, and news strategies for the entanglement of Indigenous knowledges in academic and policy institutions.
The question
Although there have been efforts to engage with Indigenous knowledges, these efforts remain:
- Local
- Fragmented
- Not structurally transformative
The limitations of multiculturalism and interculturality have made this clear. So, how can we develop new, effective entanglements of knowledges that draws from different epistemologies?
EDGES Proposal
EDGES addresses this question through six analytical layers with the significant participation of:
- Indigenous academic researchers
- Active collaboration with Indigenous intellectuals and experts
The project aims to create a pluralistic, multi-scale approach to knowledge production, research, and dissemination, through:
- Symposiums
- Workshops
- Mini-courses
- Open-access publications
- Policy recommendations
- Social media
EDGES provides critical tools for:
- Universities
- Schools
- Communities
These tools will help foster critical dialogue with Indigenous peoples and other cultural minorities by entangling Indigenous knowledges into university curricula and praxis, contributing to the:
- Education of future generations
- Improving policies
- Driving scientific renewal
