Indigenous Film Art Festival Marburg | 8–9 June 2025

The Departments of Social Anthropology and Media Studies at Philipps-Universität Marburg are proud to present the Indigenous Film Art Festival Marburg, a vibrant celebration of Indigenous cinema from Latin America.

This unique event creates space for the voices and visions of Indigenous filmmakers, highlighting their right to self-determination through powerful artistic expression. The festival brings together a rich and diverse selection of documentaries, short films, and feature films that challenge colonial stereotypes and amplify Indigenous perspectives on identity, resistance, and ecological justice.

Through compelling narratives and striking visual storytelling, the films reflect on themes such as colonial history, environmental crises, and ongoing struggles for Indigenous sovereignty and cultural survival.

Beyond the Screen
The festival will also host conversations with filmmakers, panel discussions, and expert talks—offering opportunities for meaningful dialogue around the political, artistic, and cultural contributions of Indigenous communities.
